Sentinels is a premier esports organization based in Los Angeles, California. The organization employs content creators and fields professional teams that compete in competitive esports leagues, including Valorant, Halo, and Apex Legends.

Their goal is to build competitive teams across esports while connecting as many passionate fans as possible into their network. The Sentinels have one of the highest Twitter engagement among all esports organizations in North America.

The Opportunity

With Riot Games announcement of creating a franchise league for their Valorant game, Sentinels leadership came to Evan Burk to support the organization in their application process, provide coaching and mentorship to the existing team members, and help in the roster construction and culture building of the Valorant team during the transition into the franchised league.

Acting in an advisory role to ownership on key aspects of competitive strategy, team building, talent development, and organizational dynamics as Sentinels built towards joining and competing in Riot Games' Valorant franchising league

The Results

The resulting partnership allowed Evan to collaborate with organization leaders to provide outside perspective from previous professional sports experience on building a team to compete in a newly formed competitive league.

Evan was also in-person during a month-long bootcamp for Valorant’s Last Chance Qualifying tournament in August 2022. Being in-person for the entirety of the bootcamp allowed Evan the opportunity to observe and assess team dynamics, provide 1:1 coaching to individual players, and deliver daily team workshops around mental management and in-game performance.

The Sentinels succeeded in their application and gained acceptance into Riot Game’s newly formed Valorant franchised league, a highly visible and game-changing moment for the growing organization to compete with larger organizations on the biggest stage in professional esports.
